Juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) is a disease that causes joint swelling and pain in children and teenagers. If it is not treated properly, it can lead to long-term joint damage and disability. Pediatric rheumatologists
usually rely on physical exams and reported symptoms to guide therapy. However, these exams do not always show all signs of active arthritis. Ultrasound (US) is a safe imaging tool that allows rheumatologists with special training to see arthritis. Today,
different rheumatologists and groups use different US methods, which makes it hard to compare results. This project aims to create one shared, international US system called the Juvenile Arthritis International Musculoskeletal Ultrasound (JAIMUS) protocol,
based on expert agreement and patient feedback. This will help better track how well treatments are working and improve future studies for children with JIA.
