About CARRA

The Childhood Arthritis and Rheumatology Research Alliance (CARRA) is a national nonprofit dedicated to improving the lives of children and young adults with pediatric rheumatic diseases through collaborative research, education, and data. CARRA’s work depends on a technology ecosystem that connects membership, philanthropy, communications, research, and operations and on the people who ensure those systems work together effectively.

General Summary

CARRA’s technology environment has grown alongside the organization. This has created an opportunity to establish clear ownership of CARRA’s technology environment and build a more integrated, scalable, and sustainable foundation for the organization’s future.

The Enterprise Systems Manager will serve as CARRA’s primary internal owner and strategic lead for the organization’s enterprise systems environment. This individual will assess the current technology landscape, establish a prioritized roadmap, improve system architecture and integration, and coordinate internal staff and external technology partners to execute that roadmap.

This is not a traditional IT support role and is not limited to Salesforce administration. The Enterprise Systems Manager will own the architecture, priorities, and outcomes across CARRA’s enterprise systems while leveraging managed service providers, implementation partners, and other specialized resources when appropriate.

The successful candidate will be comfortable operating in an environment where systems and processes need to be assessed and improved, rather than simply maintained. They will be able to translate organizational needs into practical technology solutions, determine what should be prioritized, and build the structure and documentation needed to support CARRA’s continued growth.

Reporting directly to the CEO, this role will have meaningful responsibility for technology direction and prioritization. Within the first year, the Enterprise Systems Manager will establish a clear understanding of CARRA’s technology environment, identify and address priority risks and opportunities, develop a technology roadmap, strengthen governance and documentation, and begin executing the highest-priority improvements.

Position Responsibilities

Minimum of 37.5 hours/week

Enterprise Systems Strategy & Architecture

  • Lead an organization-wide assessment of CARRA’s systems, applications, integrations, data flows, vendors, licenses, and technology-related processes.
  • Develop and maintain current- and future-state enterprise architecture, including system relationships, integrations, dependencies, data flows, technical debt, and technology risks.
  • Establish and maintain a prioritized technology roadmap aligned with strategic value, organizational risk, cost, dependencies, resources, and organizational capacity.
  • Evaluate opportunities to simplify, consolidate, automate, or optimize existing technology before introducing new systems or resources.
  • Maintain an enterprise-level view of technology risk, security, access, system dependencies, and business continuity.

Business Analysis & Solution Design

  • Partner with functional leaders and staff to understand business needs, challenges, and desired outcomes and translate them into practical technology requirements and solutions.
  • Facilitate requirements gathering and process analysis, focusing on the underlying business problem rather than simply the requested technology or feature.
  • Identify opportunities to improve, standardize, automate, and streamline workflows and processes.
  • Develop and evaluate solution options considering cross-functional dependencies, data quality, scalability, security, maintainability, cost, and organizational impact.
  • Provide clear, executive-ready recommendations that outline options, tradeoffs, risks, costs, and expected value.

Integration, Data & Technology Governance

  • Develop and maintain an enterprise-level understanding of CARRA’s systems, integrations, data flows, dependencies, and technology needs.
  • Map current- and future-state integrations and data flows and translate business requirements into clear technical requirements and priorities.
  • Evaluate existing integrations, automations, and data processes to identify opportunities to simplify, improve, replace, or redesign them.
  • Partner with leadership to define authoritative data sources, data requirements, and reporting needs and incorporate them into technology solutions.
  • Establish and maintain documentation of key systems, integrations, data flows, dependencies, and technology decisions.
  • Support technology governance, including security, access, privacy, data quality, and risk management across CARRA’s technology environment.

Salesforce & Operational Systems

  • Provide hands-on expertise in Salesforce administration, configuration, automation, reporting, data structures, and solution design.
  • Maintain and continuously improve CARRA’s Salesforce environment, including constituent, membership, donor, fundraising, and operational processes.
  • Apply Salesforce NPSP knowledge to support CARRA’s nonprofit and membership-related needs.
  • Evaluate Salesforce capabilities and existing licenses before recommending additional products, custom development, or external resources.
  • Develop and maintain reports, dashboards, workflows, automations, and operational tools that support reliable decision-making and efficient business processes.
  • Ensure Salesforce and other core systems are appropriately integrated and aligned with CARRA’s broader enterprise architecture.
  • Salesforce is an important component of this role, but the Enterprise Systems Manager is responsible for the broader enterprise systems environment, not Salesforce alone.

Vendor Management, Roadmap Execution & Change Management

  • Manage external technology partners and vendors, including scope, deliverables, performance, contracts, licenses, and dependencies.
  • Maintain CARRA’s internal ownership of technology requirements, architecture, priorities, and decisions while coordinating external resources to execute the technology roadmap.
  • Establish practical processes for technology changes, including requirements, testing, documentation, communication, and implementation.
  • Coordinate cross-functional and vendor dependencies, monitor progress and risks, and recommend adjustments to keep technology priorities moving forward.
  • Communicate technology initiatives, changes, risks, and outcomes to leadership and staff in clear, non-technical language and support adoption through appropriate documentation and training.

Education / Experience

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in information technology, computer science, information systems, business administration, or a related field.
  • 5–8+ years of experience in enterprise systems, business systems management, Salesforce, systems analysis, IT, or a related field.

  • Experience with data governance, enterprise architecture, analytics, reporting, or business intelligence environments.
  • Experience developing technology roadmaps, governance frameworks, or enterprise systems strategies.
  • Experience in nonprofit, membership, association, research, healthcare, or other mission-driven organizations.
  • Familiarity with cybersecurity, privacy, identity and access management, and security best practices in SaaS environments.
  • Experience working with managed service providers and implementation partners in an environment without dedicated internal technology leadership.
