CARRA’s peer-reviewed Intramural Grant Program offers various funding opportunities to support investigators at all career levels and advance research that furthers our mission. CARRA values collaborative research, including studies with an international reach and those that are high impact, innovative and may lead to additional funding.

Clinical Management JIA Grant

This award supports a retrospective study of existing CARRA Registry data that directly addresses an impactful clinical treatment decision in the management of JIA. It is anticipated that proposed studies will likely assess the effectiveness or safety of medications used in the treatment of JIA, although other topics will be considered. Comparative effectiveness studies are encouraged, while purely descriptive and cross-sectional studies are highly discouraged.

Pilot JIA Translational Research Grant

This pilot grant opportunity supports research that utilizes the CARRA Registry and/or biorepository and is intended to address promising new JIA projects and/or pursue novel ideas in basic, clinical, and translational JIA research that will provide preliminary data for future grant applications from other agencies and programs.

Team Science Planning Grant

The CARRA-Arthritis Foundation Team Science planning grant aims to stimulate the
development of high-quality, multi-investigator, multi-disciplinary program projects that
advance to extramurally funded grant awards.

2024 Publication Support Grant

This award funds publication costs (not eligible for support from the investigator’s institution or other funding mechanisms) for CARRA-related manuscripts that have been accepted for publication.

Applications are accepted on a rolling basis.

Up to $3000

Data Analysis Support Grant

This award supports qualitative or quantitative data analyses on existing CARRA datasets from collaborative research projects. Funds may be requested to complete a fixed set of tasks that will result in the timely publication of results. The investigator should have the necessary data in hand at the time of the application submission.

Applications are accepted on a rolling basis.

Investigation of Representativeness in the CARRA Registry Planning Grant

This CARRA-Arthritis Foundation planning grant mechanism seeks innovative proposals to support the assessment of the representativeness of the CARRA Registry by comparing enrollment at CARRA Registry sites with broader populations.

2025 Publication Support Grant

The purpose of this funding mechanism is to aid investigators by supporting publication costs for CARRA-related manuscripts that have been accepted for publication for CARRA-AF grants awarded prior to the 2025 grant year, CARRA and Committee or workgroup research. Up to six grants will be awarded. Awards can be up to $3,000 based on the justification provided. Applications not adhering to requirements will not be considered for funding. Indirect costs are not allowed. All manuscripts must be reviewed/approved by the CARRA Publications Committee.”

PReS Meeting

CARRA is funding up to 2 travel awards for Early Investigators and/or fellows to attend the Pediatric Rheumatology European Society (PReS) annual meeting and the preconference meeting for young/early investigators in Gothenburg, Sweden from September 11 through September 14. This opportunity is open to all CARRA US and Canadian Early Investigator and Fellow members. This is an outstanding meeting and a great chance to present your work and network.

Prior awardees are not eligible.

CARRA Utrecht Travel Award

This funding opportunity provides travel support to Early Investigators who attend the Utrecht Summer School research course “Translational Medicine: Doing the Right Research Right,” offered July 7-12, 2024 in the Netherlands.

The project PI must be an Early Investigator who is a current CARRA member in good standing and who is up-to-date on both membership dues and membership information (location, contact information, and membership status). CARRA Board of Directors and Executive Committee members are not eligible to apply.

Prior awardees are not eligible.

VERITY/Brigham Course in Clinical Rheumatology Research

Through a partnership with Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School, CARRA is able to select two members to receive travel support to participate in the VERITY/Brigham Course in Rheumatology Clinical Research at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, MA on April 2-5, 2024.

Eligibility: Fellows and junior faculty

Up to two $1000 travel scholarships

Health Equity Research Grants

CARRA-PReS Collaborative Research Grant

This award supports collaborative research activities between CARRA and PReS early career investors and provides seed funding that allows CARRA and PReS investigators to successfully plan and apply for other grants that could support large-scale collaborative research activities.
