CARRA is pleased to announce an exciting opportunity for up to 2 early investigators to receive sponsorship to participate in this year’s Utrecht summer school program course entitled “Translational Medicine: Doing the Right Research Right.” Fellows with established translational research interests will also be considered for this opportunity. The course will take place July 7 – July 12, 2019 in Utrecht, Netherlands. The sponsorship will cover the 850 Euro tuition (which includes housing and lunches), round trip coach airfare and $250 for incidental expenses.

he purpose of this award is to give CARRA members a unique opportunity to compete for funds to support research that furthers the CARRA mission in front of a live audience at the CARRA Annual Meeting. Eligible CARRA members can apply for up to $35,000 in funding.

This will be a unique event for principal investigators, sub-investigators and coordinators from every CARRA Registry site. The purpose of the retreat is to facilitate and improve the experience of participating in the Registry by actively engaging with one another through small groups, panel discussions, brainstorming, problem-solving, role-playing and training.

CARRA is funding up to 2 travel awards for Early Investigators and/or fellows to attend the EULAR European Congress of Rheumatology 2019, a joint congress with Pediatric Rheumatology European Society (PReS) annual meeting, and the preconference meeting for young/early investigators in Madrid, Spain from June 11 through June 15.

Please be advised that the next round of CARRA-Arthritis Foundation Fellow and Small grants have a new deadline of Friday, February 15, 2019. Applications must be submitted no later than 11:59 PM PST. The CARRA online submission system will open for applications in December 2018. Notifications will be sent out in June of 2019. The project start date for both grants will be July 1, 2019.

CARRA is excited to introduce its newest funding opportunity, the Publication Support Grant. The purpose of this funding opportunity is to aid investigators by supporting publications costs (that are not eligible for support from the investigator’s institution or by other funding mechanisms) for CARRA-related manuscripts that have been accepted for publication.

In the United States, 300,000 children are afflicted with arthritis and other rheumatic conditions, yet there are only (~360) pediatric rheumatologists across the country available to care for these children and half of children with rheumatic disease are seen by adult providers. To address the shortage of pediatric rheumatologists and to expose pediatric residents to the field of pediatric rheumatology, CARRA has created the Pediatric Residents Program.

The internship may be eligible for a one year renewal, depending on availability of funds and/or intern productivity. We will hold a membership meeting at 6:30 PM, followed by a reception which will be co-hosted with the Arthritis Foundation. Registration will be open to all ACR attendees.

Voting is now open for the SLE Vice Chair runoff election. A runoff occurs when during the previous round of elections, a position with more than two candidates does not result in one candidate receiving greater than 50% of the votes. The top two vote recipients then participate in a runoff to determine the winner.
Only voting members (pediatric rheumatologist, sponsored voting, and emeritus members) are eligible to participate. Ballots were sent to the email address on file on 4/17/18.

Parents/patients, speakers and the following CARRA Member types may be eligible for travel reimbursement to help cover the costs associated with attending the meeting: Pediatric Rheumatologist, Sponsored Voting Members, Associate Physician Members, Emeritus Members, Associate Health Care Members, Research Coordinators and Fellow Members. Full details are available in the Travel Reimbursement Policy.
In order to submit your request, you must meet the following criteria:
Current on membership dues (or be a qualifying non-member attendee)
Complete the electronic meeting evaluation by April 27.
Submit your reimbursement request by May 4.
