Director of Individual and Foundation Giving
Job purpose
The Director of Individual and Foundation Giving plays a critical role in increasing major donor support for advancing research for pediatric rheumatic diseases. Responsibilities include new donor identification, cultivation and stewardship of existing donors to increase overall retention and giving levels, and relationship management between CARRA members, donors, Foundations, and Board members.
The Director of Individual and Foundation Giving is also responsible for supporting all areas of development, with emphasis on the cultivation and stewardship of major gifts from Individuals, Families, and Foundations. This position works closely with the Vice President of Development and Communications and Director of Communications to grow member and individual giving by developing fundraising strategies; helping to oversee implementation of fundraising campaigns, including Comprehensive and Annual Giving Campaigns; preparing briefing portfolios on prospects; and managing key stewardship activities.
Duties and responsibilities
- Assist Vice President of Philanthropy and Communications with strategic planning and implementation of fundraising plans and campaigns including identifying key prospects, prospect research, preparing background and briefing materials, briefing Board Directors, and developing reports.
- Manage a portfolio of CARRA individual and foundation donors throughout their gift cycle including initiating contact from prospect status, development of appropriate cultivation strategies, moving donors and potential donors to close and/or upgrade gifts, making face to face solicitations, maintaining stewardship contacts, and forging relationships with new major gift prospects with a particular focus on those with capacity to make five and six-figure gifts.
- Manage the grant lifecycle including grant opportunities, grant writing (in partnership with the research team), and grant submission. Partner with the Director of Corporate Philanthropic Partnerships on corporate grant opportunities.
- Develop strategy for CARRA members, individual donors and prospects and execute strategy to increase the number of donors and donations. Document moves management strategy for each prospect and donor in Salesforce, CARRA’s database.
- Create and lead implementation of donor stewardship strategies.
- Work collaboratively with entire development staff to ensure the maximization of all fundraising opportunities.
- Offer prospect strategy counsel to staff and leadership where appropriate.
- Assist with messaging including Case for Supports, donor touchpoints, fundraising communications, Foundation newsletters.
- Attend CARRA events including the Annual Scientific Meeting to cultivate, solicit, and steward Individual and Foundation Donors.
- Assist with additional duties as assigned.

- Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree
- Five or more years of development experience in a non-profit environment
Compensation
Salary for this position is competitive and depends on experience. In addition, a limited benefits package is included.
