As a CARRA member, you can:

Members must review/update their membership records annually and remain current on dues in order to be eligible for the above benefits. Renew by January 31st to avoid membership renewal fee increase.

Additionally, CARRA expects all members to participate in surveys and elections. Participation is tracked in the member database.

  • You will be required to designate your primary research group (e.g., Cross Cutting, JDM, JIA, Pain, SVARD, SLE, TRTC). Members of TRTC or Pain may select two primary research groups.
  • You will be required to designate your current workgroups. Members interested in joining a workgroup should contact the workgroup leader or the appropriate disease/research committee chair. Visit the CARRA website for more information on CARRA research committees and workgroups.
  • CARRA members are expected to participate in surveys and elections.

New Membership Categories

CARRA now offers two new membership types:

  • Research Professional Member—Investigator, for non-MD research and/or health care professionals or postdocs who serve as investigators on research studies on pediatric rheumatic disease and do not meet the criteria for sponsored voting member. Must have an advanced degree. Members are eligible for travel stipend to annual meeting and are eligible for intramural grants (must have a pediatric rheumatologists as a Co-I on the application).  Annual dues: $50
  • Research Professional Member—Other, for research professionals that work on CARRA Research studies that do not meet the criteria for any other membership category such as data coordinators, regulatory coordinators, finance specialists. Members are eligible to join CARRA research and stakeholder committees as well as workgroups.  Annual dues: none

Changes to Existing Membership Categories

  • The membership category Associate Health Care Member is now known as Health Care Professional Member. Non-MD health care professionals who actively care for children with rheumatic disease and are not trained research professionals may now join CARRA at no charge (previously $50).
  • The Research Coordinator Member is now known as Research Professional Member—Research Coordinator Member.

Participation in Committees/Workgroups

Invoices

To print an invoice and mail a check for your renewal, you will need to go through the renewal process. When you get to the 'Payment Options' screen, you have the option to either pay by credit card or print an invoice. Choose "Print an invoice" and then proceed. You will get a message that says, "Thank you for renewing your CARRA membership. A confirmation e-mail has been sent to your email. Please click here to download and print a copy of your invoice."

Membership in CARRA includes access to the Members-Only Collaboration site, free registration for the Annual Scientific Meeting, and opportunities to engage with CARRA Research Committees.

Membership Categories

 

Voting Members

Pediatric Rheumatologist

Pediatric rheumatologists who spend at least 50% of professional effort in pediatric rheumatology. Must have and maintain active medical license. US providers must be board eligible or board certified. European members must possess the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary for attaining the title "European Paediatric Rheumatologist" as defined by the paediatric section of the European Union of Medical Specialists (UEMS). Other non-US members must meet their local requirements/training standards for attaining the title of pediatric rheumatologist.

Responsibilities

  • Abide by CARRA Code of Ethics and COI/COC guidelines.

Sponsored Voting Member             

Research scientists or health care professionals who are research investigators who meet the following requirements:

  • Must be sponsored by at least two (2) Voting Members of CARRA, at least one of whom is outside the candidate’s institution

AND HAVE EITHER:

  • Served as the Principal Investigator of a study undertaken within CARRA OR
  • For more than five (5) years committed at least 50% of professional effort in a field relevant to pediatric rheumatology and published at least three peer-reviewed articles in a field relevant to pediatric rheumatology.

Two letters of support required for application, one must be from a voting member outside of the candidate’s institution.

Includes: Research Scientists or Health Care Professionals who are Research Investigators (not limited to MD's)

Emeritus Member

At the discretion of the Steering Committee, a CARRA voting member (Pediatric Rheumatologist or Sponsored Voting Member) who is no longer active in clinical research can be identified as an Emeritus Member.

In order to be considered for re-classification to Emeritus status, the member must:

  • be a dues-paying CARRA member before retirement,
  • no longer be seeing patients OR have cut back professional activity substantially (by 50% or more),
  • not serving as a CARRA PI,
  • be at least 65 years old,
  • and notify CARRA of his/her retirement and desire to change to Emeritus status

Includes: Voting Members no longer active in clinical research

  • Intramural grants, but not as a PI.

Research Professional Member—Investigator

A non-MD research and/or health care professional or postdoc who serves as investigator on research studies on pediatric rheumatic disease and does not meet the criteria for sponsored voting member. Must have advanced degree (e.g. MS, MA, NP, PhD).

Includes: Non-MD research and/or Health Care Professionals, Postdocs

Research Professional Member—Research Coordinator Member

Clinical research coordinators (including nurse coordinators) and research assistants who actively work with studies related to children with rheumatic disease.

Letter of support required only for research coordinators working solely on non-CARRA Registry studies.

Includes: Research Coordinators, Research Nurse Coordinators

 

 

Benefits

  • Travel subsidy to Annual Meeting and to annual CARRA Registry Retreat available for CARRA Registry Coordinators who are members in good standing.
  • Must be a coordinator actively working on the CARRA Registry and/or CARRA studies.
  • Voting for the Research Coordinator Network (RCN) representatives to the CARRA Steering Committee.
  • Participation in the CARRA RCN.
  • Intramural grants (must have a Pediatric Rheumatologist as a Co-I on the grant).
  • May join research/stakeholder committees and workgroups.

Responsibilities

  • Abide by CARRA Code of Ethics and COI/COC guidelines. 
  • Participate in surveys. 
  • Renew membership annually, including updating relevant profile information. 
  • Must participate in the Research Coordinator Network (which is a Stakeholder Committee).
  • Must participate in the election for RCN leadership.

Research Professional Member—Other

Research professionals that work on CARRA Research studies that do not meet the criteria for any other membership category. Examples include but are not limited to data coordinators, regulatory coordinators, and finance specialists.

Includes: Pediatric Rheumatology Research study staff or other Research Professionals who do not meet any other membership category

Responsibilities

Associate Physician Member

Non-Pediatric Rheumatologist MDs or DOs who actively care for children with rheumatic disease, and who do not meet the criteria for sponsored voting member. This includes Pediatric Rheumatologists who spend less than 50% professional effort in Pediatric Rheumatology.

Includes: 1. All MD's and DO's other than Pediatric Rheumatologists and 2. Pediatric Rheumatologists who spend <50% in pediatric rheumatology

Non-MD health care professionals who actively care for children with rheumatic disease and are not trained research professionals. Must have active certification where appropriate.

Includes: Nurses, Physical Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Physician Assistants, Psychologists

Fellow Member

A physician licensed in the United States or Canada who is currently participating in an approved Pediatric Rheumatology Fellowship program in the United States or Canada.

International Fellows: International physicians who are participating in training programs and not yet pediatric rheumatologists may apply for CARRA Fellow membership. Application must be accompanied by a letter from his/her program director confirming this status.  

Letter of support from CARRA voting member is required for non-pediatric rheumatology fellows only. Letter of support from a program director also required for International physicians to prove training status.

Benefits

  • Travel subsidy to Annual Meeting (including participation in the fellows pre-conference program) available for members in good standing.
  • Intramural fellow grants (for upcoming 3rd and 4th year fellows only) and travel awards for fellows—only for fellows participating in accredited pediatric rheumatology or med/peds training programs; International fellows in similar programs are not eligible to apply for intramural funding.
  • Participate in CARRA Fellows networking events at ACR and at the Annual Meeting.

Annual Meeting Support

Responsibilities

  • Must participate in the annual election for Fellows Co-Chairs.

Trainee Member

A pediatric resident, graduate student, or medical student in the United States or Canada (others considered on a case-by-case basis—contact CARRA with inquiries).

Letter of support from a current CARRA voting member is required.

Benefits

  • Intramural grants (must have a Pediatric Rheumatologist as a Co-I on the grant).
  • Residents are eligible to apply to the CARRA Pediatric Residents Program to attend and participate in the Annual Meeting.

  • Only those part of the Pediatric Residents Program
