Steering Committee Vice Chair Scope of Work

  • Develop/update communications plan for committee which will be included in the committee’s annual report
  • Participate in the submission of at least one CARRA-related internal or external grant application during 3-year term
  • Provide written updates for newsletters as needed
  • Identify potential successors at least one year prior to expiration of term


  • Provide leadership and oversight of development and initiation of new research projects within committee workgroups
  • Design and implement at least one committee-related research project within the 3-year term
  • Review new research protocols related to committee’s disease(s) and/or conditions, evaluate and provide recommendations on appropriateness for CARRA-wide implementation
  • Provide input into the CARRA Registry data collection and operations relevant to disease(s) and/or conditions
  • Prioritize and enhance CARRA research studies and Registry enrollment and site performance, including working with his/her site as appropriate
  • Provide input into selection of CARRA scientific grant review committee members
  • Offer guidance and support to CARRA members who are developing and implementing original research ideas, especially young investigators
  • Serve as primary facilitator of communications for the committee
  • Attend all monthly Steering Committee meetings (conference calls), currently held the 2nd Friday of each month from 2-3:30PM Eastern time
  • Attend all face to face meetings of the Steering Committee
  • Attend (in person) the CARRA Annual Scientific Meeting
  • Represent CARRA as a consultant/resource to collaborators and other groups when needed
  • As a member of the Steering Committee, provide direction and oversight for CARRA’s internally funded research Scientific Review Committee, Publications Committee, Data & Sample Share Committee, and CTP Committee
  • As a member of the Steering Committee provide oversight of CARRA membership engagement and the CARRA Annual Scientific Meeting
  • Assist the Chair with completion of an annual report including committee and workgroup progress, activities at the annual meeting, and future plans to CARRA by May 30 of each year.
  • Assist with planning of committee meetings
  • Support and improve productivity of work groups 
  • Communicate regularly with Chair on goals and progress of the committee and its workgroups 
  • Train new vice chair
  • Fulfills responsibilities of chair when chair is unavailable


Must be a member in good standing.

  • Member is current on membership dues and membership information (location, contact information, and membership status) is up-to-date
  • Member participates in at least one Research Committee (e.g. JDM, JIA, Rare Diseases, etc.) of CARRA
  • Member has attended at least one annual CARRA meeting over the last 3 year period


Three year term

An estimated/average 2 hours weekly will be needed to perform these duties. This role includes compensation of 5% of salary plus fringe.
