Membership Committee Scope of Work

The Membership Committee is chartered to review, develop, and recommend CARRA’s membership policies and procedures, as well as carry out final Steering Committee approved policies. The Committee’s areas of supervision include the following aspects of membership: its structure, fees, requirements, and administration; growth and retention; benefits; developing a robust leadership pipeline.

The Committee provides reports and recommendations to the Steering Committee for review and approval.


  • Keeping minutes of all meetings.
  • Reporting regularly to the Steering Committee concerning its activities; and advising the Steering Committee of any developments that should have Steering Committee consideration.
  • Ensuring conformance to Steering Committee policies and directives that relate to membership.
  • Recruiting, orienting and training new Committee members.
  • Representing the best interests of CARRA at all times; maintaining confidentiality regarding the Committee’s work; and avoiding conflicts of interest.
  • Annually reviewing and assessing the Committee’s performance and the adequacy of the Charter, and recommending any changes to the Steering Committee for approval.
  • Establishing CARRA’s membership policy, annually reviewing it, and providing recommendations for changes to the Steering Committee.
  • Overseeing the implementation of CARRA’s membership policies and procedures, including membership categories; dues payments and other requirements to be a member in good standing; record-keeping; and member communications.
  • Developing and overseeing CARRA’s Resident, Fellow and Early Investigator programs.
  • Ensuring annual generation and analysis of CARRA’s membership statistics and other information regarding membership.
  • Proposing annual membership goals and objectives for review and approval by the Steering Committee. These include goals for member numbers and growth; rates of retention and satisfaction; frequency and types of communications; member research activities; benefits and programs to be offered; and the leadership pipeline.
