2021 Pediatric Residents Program

Application Deadline: February 15

CARRA is a North American-based research organization of over 550 pediatric rheumatology investigators spanning more than 115 clinical practice sites. More than 95% of all board certified Pediatric Rheumatologists are members of CARRA. CARRA’s providers treat and study patients with all pediatric diseases such as JIA, lupus, dermatomyositis, localized scleroderma, systemic sclerosis, vasculitis, fibromyalgia, Kawasaki’s Disease, PFAPA, Sjögren’s Syndrome, CRMO, in addition to other auto-inflammatory diseases.

In the United States, 300,000 children are afflicted with arthritis and other rheumatic conditions, yet there are only (~360) pediatric rheumatologists across the country available to care for these children and half of children with rheumatic disease are seen by adult providers. To address the shortage of pediatric rheumatologists and to expose pediatric residents to the field of pediatric rheumatology, CARRA and the Arthritis Foundation are offering the Pediatric Residents Program.

CARRA Annual Scientific Meeting (ASM)

The CARRA Annual Meeting brings together physicians, scientific investigators, nurses, research coordinators, patients/caregivers, in addition to senior leadership from CARRA and the Arthritis Foundation. The meeting is primarily a working meeting, designed for groups to be able to meet in order to collaborate to prioritize and facilitate research projects. All attendees actively participate in various phases of research development in large committee meetings as well as many smaller topic-focused workgroups. Plenary sessions highlighting the latest and most important topics in research are also integral to the meeting program.

The goals of the CARRA-Arthritis Foundation Pediatric Residents Program of CARRA’s ASM are to:

  • Provide pediatric residents with access to the broad pediatric rheumatologic community through participation in CARRA’s Annual Scientific Meeting.
  • Encourage interested pediatric residents to consider pediatric rheumatology as a subspecialty, thus improve patient access to pediatric rheumatologists.
  • Introduce Pediatric Residents to the resources of the Arthritis Foundation.

Programming Open to Pediatric Resident Participants

Traditionally, CARRA and the Arthritis Foundation provide funding for Pediatric Residents to attend the Annual Scientific Meeting in person.
