Fellows’ Update

Paul JensenMatthew BasiagaMatt Basiaga and Paul Jensen assumed the role of co-chairs of the fellows’ leadership committee in July 2015 from Hanna Kim and Jon Hausman. The fellows leadership committee has been active with several well-attended events at the ACR in San Francisco.

The conference started out with a CARRA introductory meeting on November 6th for first year fellows who haven’t already done so to join CARRA. Approximately 30 fellows were in attendance with many expressing interest in not only being an active CARRA member, but also being part of the fellows committee.  This will add to the robustness of our planning and ensures longevity of the committee.

A lively social event for pediatric fellows took place at Jamber Wine pub on November 7, graciously planned by Jennifer Cooper from UCSF. Many members from the fellows committee were present at the pediatric rheumatology social and enjoyed the unique networking opportunity as well as time to unwind with colleagues.

The group is planning a pre-conference meeting for fellows prior to the annual CARRA meeting. This will be geared towards 2nd and 3rd year fellows and was a huge success last year.  Proposed topics include work/life balance, successful mentor/mentee dyads, CV and cover letter tips and feedback, finding a job, contract negotiation, and more. This is a session you don’t want to miss!
